I'm frantically sewing some flowers together using the cool sunrise collection of LillyBelle to give myself a head start but if you'd like to join in with me then the posts will all be on Fat Quarterly starting with fabric requirements on Saturday of this week (June 9th) and then I'll post directions over the next few weeks, all through the summer, so even if you have never English Paper Pieced before you will be absolutely fine. Plus - this is a hand sewn project, it's going to take a while, so don't worry about not keeping up - there's no prize for being first and no booby prize for being last.

I have had some templates made up which make fabric cutting so much easier, and far less wasteful. There are just a few available at the minute in my etsy store right now, if you'd like to snap 'em up then please do! They are priced at $15 for a set of 3 templates, the large hexagon that makes up the main body of the quilt, the smaller hexagon that is included in the borders, and the leaf template for applique. (they sold out - wow! That was fast, I have more ordered so they should be here in the next week. I'll let you know once they come back in stock!)
And whilst you're shopping, maybe you'd like to take advantage of this awesome offer on the paper pieces website - use the code FAT25 for 25% off your shapes (until August 31st 2012). You will need a bulk pack of 1.5" sided hexagons, and a sampler pack of 1" hexagons, and will need to re-use some of the 1.5" hexies to make sure you have enough (it's ok - the thick paper makes them perfect for re-using at least a couple of times!) I cannot stress enough how awesome these papers are - I have always cut my own, but after using these I doubt I'll ever bother again (ok, maybe if I'm in a hurry to get started). They're thick, really nice to sew around and so easy to baste. And you don't get the claw hand from cutting paper out for hours (just from cutting fabric...it's a start!)
Who is with me?

Possibly your loveliest quilt ever! I wish I could sew along but I really can't (time-wise) Thanks to Tacha I do know how to EPP now though! :)
If you are making another one does that mean I can have this one? After all you won't really need it anymore and it would be a shame to go to waste.
I can totally make this and Soda at the same time...Maybe..
Oh, you KNOW I am so in!!
I'm in babes and you know it
Can I? Should I? I might!
That is a lovely group of fabrics that you picked. I might play along. I've got a hexy template already, but I think it's a 2 inch one, maybe 3 inches (I had an Etsy seller custom make me a template set a while back.) If I did bigger hexagons, I might have a chance of actually finishing it LOL, though granted, the precut paper pieces would sure save me a LOT of trouble.

I think I'll try that ;) because I should do something more traditional one time ;)
I just ordered your templates and the paper pieces! I love this quilt so much I am going to give it a go!
It's on like Donkey Kong, baby! Got my templates and the paper, and will shortly make a call to the doctor to schedule my carpal tunnel surgery!
Yes! I'm so in. I love epp and love your quilt, so perfect combo!
Oh I'm in - this quilt is part of the reason I started quilting, I think it might be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! I can't wait to (slowly over the course of a decade) make my own!
I'd love to but unfortunately I'm still working on my 'hex-a-long with Lynne' quilt and don't have time for another big hand project...I might have time for a cushion though! (Or even a pillow case or two, to match my hexy quilt!)
I might join in. I've got some hexy flowers already made up with no specific project in mind so I could use them. It might be more of a Hexy Mini MF though as I'm easily bored ;)
Absolutely LOVE that quilt.....not sure if I will enjoy hexies......
Yep you'll be needing a new one after I slobbered on the original, sorry about that!
I'd love to join in! (she said... hoping the time is there..) Thinking if I commit I will follow through? *grin*. Paypal seems to be on the blink but as soon as it lets me through I will pay for my order which is hanging in cyberspace.
I would love to join in!! Do you have any more template sets, your Etsy store seems to have sold out already! :(
OK, I am going to risk sounding green here, but what does "MF" stand for? Pretty sure it's not what first popped to my mind (or maybe it is??, depending on the difficulty in completing the project?)...
@anonymous - remember the Prince song, sexy MF? Well...meet hexy MF. It probably is just what popped into your head ;)
I'm completely in! Was looking for an EPP project this summer whilst I cope with moving, almost bought some paper pieces from the PP people last night, very glad I didn't now you sorted out such a sweet discount. Looking forward to the kick off, hope the city of Leeds can cope with two Hexy MFs!
Looks awesome! I love hexies. Not sure I'll make a whole quilt from them, but will be fun to grab some further inspiration =D
I'm having a giveaway on my blog. Feel free to stop by and enter (if you haven't already) =D

ooh, I wish for the time... what about a cushion/pillow cover for those with limited time and experience???
I'm totally in! Not only do I love the name of this quilt, I love the design, too! (And I think my husband kindly purchased a template set for me as a birthday gift!)
Yes! I already have a bunch of 1" hexies sewn up so I just need to do the 1.5" ones. sounds like fun! :)
Cheryl here saying Hurrah, it was this quilt actually that got me to add english paper piecing to my '50 things to do in my 50's list' and although we're a few months early I could definitely get a head start.
Ooh ooh.... I think I have an abandoned bag of Hexi's somewhere... If I rescue them it will be a kindness won't it?
I am definitely in.I love paper pieceing. It is addictive.
damn Koolaid. I hate the grape flavor! Ok, I'm in...I can manage this and Allegory's QAL, I think. and I'm hand sewing with Rachel, so this will MAKE me keep practicing after the summer class is over.. RIght?
Well as I have the templates it would be rude not to. I mean it's not as if I already have 2 EPP projects on the go already . . .
I want to do it ! Let's go, will you put more templates up on etsy???
this might be the perfect project for me to take on vacation. I'll be spending lots of time on the train
Going to be in fabric heaven soon.... Pat Bravo is coming to Quilters Haven on Sat 23rd... Bringing samples and demoing.... And I'm working that day too.... Wheee... (don't mean this as a plug just thought I'd inform...)
Look, I don't have anything else to do at all, so what a silly question!!
Well, I love having a hand project to do, so I just ordered the paper pieces-thanks for the discount code! I really don't think I better buy anymore fabric, so I may go with all my leftover AMH fabric from the swoon quilt! Sounds fun!
I shall gaze in admiration from a respectful distance but if you were wanting to rename in a slightly more family friendly fashion you could always go for - 'I'm Hexy and I know it'. LMFAO over here heh heh heh.
I must admit i have never liked hexies before but i love the large one and your quilt looks amazing, i could be tempted!
Ok, this quilt of yours is an absolute favorite of mine...and it just so happens I started my first EPP project (using Summersville) last week. So I'm definitely going to play along, although probably will be making a smaller quilt! Woohoo...I'm excited that you're sharing this brilliant quilt with us!!!!
Hey Katy since I am a lucky recipient if your acrylic templates do I need the papers too? I'd like to cut some hexies to work on while on holiday in the next few weeks. Help please! I'm super new at all this hand work.
Xo, di
I started a hexie quilt some years ago when I needed some hand work to keep me occupied following surgery. I am still going (only 5? years so far???!!!) and was only using Kaffe but have since branched out. Maybe I should follow along as incentive! I've always said this project will take me through to my 70s!! (i'm 44 now). Wis me luck!
I think I just might......!
I think I just might......!

I think I just might......!
Would love to join in! When does it begin?
Katy, I absolutely fell in love with your hexy quilt! It's the first hexy design that I actually like. I can't wait to start your quilt-along. What fun!
I am already a hex-a-holic. What's one more??
I love your quilt and I love Lillybelle so resistance is futile. I am ordering thru paper pieces... Can I buy the leaf template only?
I would like to join in but my hexies (that I started at the Retreat) are 1 and 1/4" - hope that doesn't disqualify me!
Yes!
Hexy quilts have never been my thing, but... I just ordered the templates and papers.
Woohoo! I ordered templates and paper pieces yesterday after finding some lovely fabrics last weekend at my LQS. I've never done paper piecing so I'll be slow, but I love the design and other handwork so I think I'll be okay!
And Unknown right above there is me! I signed in with the wrong google acct... One not connected to blogger! Whoops!
I started my very first quilt and not knowing diddly squat about the subject chose hexies (hand sewn of course). It may take me a considerable time (and the RSI has already kicked in). Can't wait to start on the next quilt which will definitely be machined!
I am so so late joining in on this. But hey ho what else is new? Anyway thank you so much for everything you have put on Fat Quarterly because I so wanted to take something with me on my holiday next month to sew by hand and this is going to be it. Now all I need is the fabric and other stuff and then I'm good to go. I have stitched some hexies by hand so I kinda know what I'm doing. Thanks again for everything.

Hey, I KNEW I'd seen you posted a deal for paper pieces somewhere, so I did a search on your blog and voila, found it! That's a pretty deep discount. Thank you! the prices have increased since the last time I ordered umpteen years ago. Anyway, that really helps. And I'm going to order an acrylic template too because it's a bit of a pain placing a ruler out from the paper piece to get the correct size of fabric. Yep, that's what I've been doing lol.
